This past weekend we saw some great times run at the BAA 10k. American Shalane Flanagan won the Women’s race, in an American Record time of 30:52. She was followed by teammate Amy Cragg, who finished in a personal best time as well.
On the Men’s side, the race was won by Daniel Chebii of Kenya, in a time of 27:55. American Dathan Ritzenhein was the first American in fourth place, in a time of 28:12.
GREAT race for Flanagan and Cragg. Heading into the Olympics, I believe this was their last tuneup before the Marathon. While it may not be 100% indicative of Marathon performance, I feel such great races at this stage only bode well for them. It also doesn’t suck to see an American Record go down!
As for the Men’s side, I was very excited to see Ritz race so well. He has been one of my favorite Runners for quite some time, and I’m glad to see him back on the horse post Olympic Marathon Trials. With this fitness, though, it makes me wonder if he would have been able to be competitive this weekend at the USA Trials. Ritz is a gamer, but would he have held up well against the competition in people like True, Rupp, and Mead?
